Respectfully, every running back on the current roster is very average. The recruits cannot get here soon enough.

Denson was a terrible recruiter.

Absolutely correct. We have secured a commitment from a top back and lead for another. It hurts to admit it but he and Lyght were our worst recruiters. Todd is my second favorite player of all time, but has got to get some high 4 and five star guys in.

Yes, but those "average" players become big time solid compliments when you have a stud. Let's just assume for a second Tyree is the main guy next year. Then you have Jones (solid), Armstrong (solid) and Smith (solid) that provide quality depth and some short yardage back qualities to assist with Tyree being the major home run threat.

Jones has run great this year. Perfect to put with Tyree. I want to see Jahmir get more carries too.

All the current running backs will not even sniff an NFL roster. It is unacceptable for ND to be so lacking at the RB position. If you want to argue they are reliable backups I can agree with that. Put any of them against a Bama-type defense and they would get absolutely destroyed. Jones is too slow, Armstrong is too small without enough quickness to make up for it, and Smith is just plain average.

Armstrong is just under 6'1 and weighs 220#, that is good size. I'm not sure Smith has been given enough opportunities to truly prove anything. Overall, I do agree the RB position needs upgrades.

Armstrong plays smaller than 220# if he is that big. He is easily thrown off balance by one hit.

Avery Davis is the best runner on the team. I am not sure why he is not on the field more in some fashion.

I agree we should be using Davis more. He is our one true playmaker right now.

As for Armstrong, I think he lacks the vision, patience, and wiggle and he runs into defenses. So it looks like he isn’t strong enough. He also keeps battling the injury bug so it seemed to have stunted his confidence and ability to be more athletic. I think he could still find all these things however.
