2019 Recruiting Prospects

Recommended Posts

This is a very good class and will get better.

I think people have this obsession with end of the year commitments because it seems more exciting.

A ton of the top guys with interest have already committed. I think they have 3 top 50 types and a few top 100 types overall.

Hamilton, Krisrofic and Carroll are absolute studs and especially Hamilton and Kristofic should continue to rise up the rankings. Their offers speak for themselves. NaNa and Ekwonu are both top 100 types with incredible offer lists as well. Those five, specifically, are a great core.

At this time last year, Lamb, Simon and Austin were not top 100 types and Nd hadn’t landed Griffith yet. Still a lot of time for players to ride up rankings and for ND to land a few more players with some pedigree.

Completely agree

ND rarely has hats on the table at the end of the cycle. Even their top rated guys are ussually committed earlier. Also, remember this, rankings change. Even though he is no longer a commit, people were hard on McNamera when he committed and now he is a 4 star.

Figure of speech. Hats on the table guys for the most part i think of as elite. Don't make me explain any further. I'm one finger typing on my phone:-P

Bigs point is these schools were heavily recruiting these players. It wasn’t just a non-committal offer situation with guys like Kristofic and Hamilton for example.

I'm speaking more in general because i know when our recruit don't have a high star rating then we base his talent off of offers. If his offers aren't great then we look at his "film" and conclude he's a stud. Not every recruit is great, hell, many of the hi ranked kids underperform.

How do you know if a kid has a non committal offer, coaches can't say anything?

If you follow recruiting as much as Big and myself, and have accounts that provide “premium content”, you learn things or hear things that either is never given to the general public or before the general public. It’s pretty common knowledge in the recruiting community that Kristofic and Hamilton specifically were touted by big time programs at the time of their 3-star ratings.

You are 100% correct on certain recruits, even some high profile recruits. They aren’t all targeted to the same degree by every school. Not all offers are the same.

Another thing to add to what Vegas said, many have friends who follow other schools like we do (reading articles, listening to podcasts, etc.) and gain insight on what their coaches say and do. I have a few friends who follow M this way. Kristofec was very high on their board because they loved his film. Their OL/OT situation has also been a train wreck since Harbaugh has been there. They love what they're seeing from Patterson thus far and feel if they can build their OL back up, they will get over the top in the B1G. This was the reason they also brought in Ed Warriner to coach the OL.

Last year they also really wanted 3* Tommy Tremble and had the full court press on him throughout. They loved his athleticism.

Good that's 2 for us and none for Meatchicken. Let's go for a trifecta this recruiting season!

Watcha thinking Big? How good (or bad) are our chances?

Yeah, he appears to be all Stanford.

ND seems very content with the current class as is for now. Several 2020 kids have been making it to campus. Might see a couple 2019 sprinkled in then the Michigan game will be big for a few 2019 and a ton of 2020 kids. Most likely ND let’s their season get underway and senior seasons for recruits to evaluate new options or renewed interest from others. I’ve cleaned up the front page, not many players left on there.

I know this has been mentioned before, but I cannot seem to remember. How does a recruit early enrolling affect the class size? Aren't they able to count for the previous class? If so, is there strategy to this or is it a minor detail?

Interesting to see that all of the OL/DL commits are planning to EE.

Early enrollees do count toward the previous class. This one will be interesting because I’ve seen up to 9 guys in this current class mentioning enrolling early and that is not possible. Right now I’m not even sure the seven I have marked will all be able to do so. If a guy can enroll early at a position of need like Gouston Griffith then you set priorities. A few years ago Kyle Brindza backed out of enrolling early so a skill guy could.

I thought you could apply the EE to either class...

I wasn’t trying to be overly negative toward the class they have I was just comparing the rankings according to 247 composite with last year. I trust in your and Big’s assessment over any posters when it comes to recruiting so it is encouraging to hear both of you say this is a very good class.

I thought last year was an exceptional class and if combined with the right follow up class could form a legit national title contender. It sounds like they are on the right track.

This class may be good. The problem is that it may not be "sexy" because it lacks top guys at the skill positions on offense.

This is a good way of putting it. Everyone wants RBs and WRs. Obviously, the lack of elite RBs is an issue to a certain extent. ND got the WRs last year, and is only shooting for two this year. They should end up with damn good 2020 WR class.

Overall, this class compliments 2018 very well.
