Should Prosise have caught it?

Recommended Posts

Are we talking about the final 3rd down play? My seat was directly behind the end zone and that was a pretty much impossible catch for anybody not named Odell. It was a horrible decision to throw there.

I agree. Golson made up his mind to go there and probably should have gone to Cory or fuller.

No need for Prosise when you have Robinson in the end zone...

This is what I have never understood about our red zone!!! God forbid we go to Robinson at 6'4" or Koyack at 6'5".. Let's go to the short receiver who is double teamed or not open to begin with!!!

I think the idea behind the play was that Prosise should have been single covered, with both safety's helping to cover Corey and Fuller. However, it was not the case.

Both safety's stayed home, saw that Everett never turned to look at anyone else, and BOTH covered to the center. If he had just surveyed the field, took a breath, he would have seen both of his top guys in single coverage on third down. All he needed to do was continue to look at Prosise and then turn to either of his other receivers and they were in a better position for the completion.

It was something that he will learn with time. He just needs to recognize this better before the snap and decide what he will do. He's just not there yet.

But that is sort of the issue. He has played almost two full seasons. That is all most QBs get, if that. If the Kelly offense is so complex that a QB needs 3 years to learn it, ND is in real trouble moving forward.

OK I get it about the two seasons. I'm not supporting or defending him, but I think it was just the moment. It wasn't that hard of a play to read. It was down on my end and we're all shouting "Corey is in single!". We could all see it. I don't think it's anything about difficulty of offense. Cory you played QB. How long did it take to recognize coverage? This was where he just needed to recognize the situation, and go to his second or third. I think that's why Brian was so irritated. As a senior he should be seeing that.

There's another element though: The longer he delays with progressions the more likely it is that the rush gets to him. Louisville had gotten pressure all game long. He doesn't want to take a sack in that situation where an in completion still gives his kicking team a chip shot and you play to win the overtime. Unfortunately, the field goal unit didn't deliver.

I wasn't thinking a progression but rather just go right to the other receiver. Either one would have sufficed

But either way he had plenty of time. He just didn't make the right play.

I didn't see it. I do know he should have thrown the ball to Fuller on the first drive. Fuller's man blitzed off the corner, leaving Fuller wide open with a safety trying to cover him. Either Golson is still not reading coverages quickly/well enough, or he's being told to go with his primary receiver. I really don't know.

Also on the interception. He went only to his primary. Hen ever looked him off or even looked anywhere else. He decided at the snap he was going there and he went there.

Still, if he throws the ball outside it probably isn't a pick. It wasn't an accurate throw in a situation where he had to be very accurate. I didn't like the call though. It was the first throw after sitting on the bench for awhile and it was very long throw to pick up 7 yards. Not a good situation, but still on Golson.

He threw a ball to Brown on the last drive on 3rd down that was a similar bang/bang throw, but it was to the short field and placed perfectly.

There is ALWAYS a primary receiver on every passing play called...and for whom the play is designed for

Again, not really.

There are plays to get the ball to certain players ONLY if they get the right look.

However, many plays are combination routes (which I know you know)...I don't think CJ is the intended receiver but becomes the option once the play opens up

Kelly yesterday said that the CB in coverage baited Golson into the throw. He should have told him what to look for. Just more items to continually improve on.
