hate to jump in late and ask this but why is this a thread?

we lose one game and it is the end of the world?

it sucked to lose that one but guess what ND will never be a power like Bama.

we dont have ability to recruit four and five star depth.

will get a nice layer of creme with a decent drop off.

at bama a five star gets hurt and another five star comes in.

ND has to win close games with excellent execution. we dont have a very big margin for error!

we wont many games if we turn the ball over 5 times, regardless of coaching.

Because this isn't North Korea and we have freedom of speech?

PT, I created this thread to generate some names that people would like to see as the ND coach if Kelly decided to leave. I don't think he is leaving nor do I want him to leave tbh but his name has been brought up in rumors for the Florida job and NFL jobs. It wasn't meant as an "end of the world" thread. Was just curious about whom fans liked around the country and would "realistically" like to see at ND if BK left.

not so sure how hot of a commodity BK is. Pete Fyutiak (sp?) said on chicago am the other day that BK is good as gone if the NFL comes calling but not so sure that happens or if he has the right demeanor to deal with pro athletes.

here's my short list.

1)Gary Patterson

2) Dan Mullen

3) Bob Stoops

I like Mora, I feel like he has the recruiting chops to get it done, but he isn't leaving LA for the frigid north, neither am I.

Though if they offer me the job I am on it.

I do like what Al Golden is doing in Miami, I would see him as a good fit. Gruden is always a favorite, Meyer too.

The thing is, Notre Dame is not offering more money enough to lure a guy like Meyer away from OSU. His chances of winning there are exponentially higher and I can assure you that means a lot more than the moral victory of winning the "right way." I could also work with Todd Graham, Les Miles though I think he is a turd for his handling of the Gunner Kiel situation. I would sleep ok at night with Nick Saben at the wheel.

Why do yo say that? Someone in another thread mentioned in our last coaching search we got the reigning coach of the year and before that a highly sought after NFL Super Bowl winning coordinater. Now neither worked out as well as we wanted (yet) but we haven't exactly been scraping the bottom of the barrel in our last 2 searches, and things have only improved since then.

The coach of the year was Kelly. The super star from the NFL was Weis.

The top coaches showed zero interest.

The improvements, all of them, were the results of Coach Kelly.

If Kelly is fired today, he will have a good job before his vacancy if filled at ND.

Thought I'd make a thread about possible Kelly replacements with all the Florida and NFL rumblings? Give your opinion on realistic possibilities that you want to see be the next ND coach if BK leaves...

if or when BK leaves I would like to see ND bring in a coach who understands that having a strong running game is important.

Ok if that's what you believe

It's what I know.

He coached here, in Philly, at Temple.

The story was always about him going to Penn State...where is an alum. A Penn State guy...played for JoePa.

Despite all the crazy **** there it is still Penn State.

He said no to stay in the sun and fun of Miami.

He won't leave that for South Bend and all it's restrictions.

Fact!

I didn't see he would definitely take it. I said it is Swarbrick ' s choice. They have already discussed it as Golden was the first coach to be called when Kelly interviewed for the Eagles. He won't be my choice but I guess Jack loves him.

God I hate myself for reading this thread...

Almost ever name typed here would laugh at the ND job.

The $$$$ is the same now at most places. Its simply not just university $$$ anymore. Radio/TV shows, apparel, public appearances, and camps...all turn into good pay days for coaches.

Unfortunately, Urban has made it OK to turn down ND. And he "let it slip" as to why he said no...academics and code of conduct are too tough to deal with.

It's why since Lou left ND has NOT been able to get a "big time" coach with a proven track record...BK included.

All of that...I like BK!!! I want BK to stay!!! I believe BK will get us into the playoffs more than once!

But this notion that ND has more to offer than anyone else is crazy.

1. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma HC

2. Tony Dungy, former Colts / Bucs

3. Darell Bevell, Seahawks OC

4. Mark Richt, Georgia HC (keeping BVG a strong possibility)

5. Chuck Martin, Miami, OH

6. Skip Holtz, Louisiana Tech HC

7. Dana Holgerson, West Virginia, HC

8. Doc Holliday,Marshall, HC

9. Dabo Sweeney, Clemson HC

10. Bo Pellini, Nebraska HC

Probably not as sexy a list as some would hope for...
