Thinking out loud WR edition

I'm pleasantly surprised by the play of the young guys but are they ready to take on a bigger load?

DD has the tools but struggles with running the right route and a few of tommy's picks can really be blamed on DD. Perhaps with EG at qb and a lot less audibles, his route running will improve.

Corey made some plays but need to make the jump and push DD. He was hurt a lot this year though. I'd love to see him be an impact guy.

Chris brown, I'm getting the feeling he's gonna be more of a deep ball specialist and he's gonna have to hold off fuller. They could be a nice 1-2 punch with golson back because tommy couldn't really throw the deep ball.

Onwualu, is a guy i like but find it hard to see him ever breaking through on offense and Procise didn't live up to his spring hype so the slot spot is wide open. Maybe amir moves out there? He don't appear to be in the running for snaps in the backfield anymore.

Can't forget Torii. After an injury he's been creating some buzz on the practice field.

So now we add brent to the mix. are we deep enough that it's a no brainer he redshirts?

Holmes seems like a long term project and if mckenzie makes it to campus, you have to put him on ST not sure if they could use him as a S/WR. I always have flashbacks of Neal-another small quick player who was much better in my mind then on the field.

and they are still after michiah quick. If he commits that a lot of good young wr's. maybe too many if there is such a thing.

I just wonder will the wideouts go the way of running backs in that robinson may play a lot one game then very little the next and never having a real dominate player?

The staff might agree considering how many receivers they recruited last year and are seeking this year.

For me, the solution is to rely heavily on the 2 TE offense. That seems to fit us v

Best I believe.

We have a lot of candidates for the 2nd 3rd and 4 th receivers. I am thinking those who have been here a year will beat out the newbies. Lots of competition . My bet is Robinson starts because he catches anything near him.

With Robinson, Niklas and Koyack, we have some very tall targets for EG with good hands. That will be tough to defend.

I like that a lot of them do different things well

Robinson and Brent are your tall guys with long arms and soft hands who box out

Hunter is a possession guy over the middle

James Onawaulu can BLOCK boy. He has some ball skills too.

BETTER Danny Smith

Fuller can really run and makes good sharp cuts. look for him on the field PLENTY MORE next year

Quick would be like having a Davonte Neal, hope it works out better, screens, long stuff, make you miss, sharp cuts

West Coast makes me nervous... bad memories

Holmes is A POLISHED receiver he reminds me of Floyd , really constistent, WELL COACHED ST Thomas Aquinas, hes the STEAL that jumps out

Brown- Speed, blocking, are his hands good enough?

Daniels- Can he handle being a number 1? He's talented but consistent effort plaques DaVaris

I think a guy like Brown will benefit most from Golson. The things he'd be good at, deep balls and quick screen type plays, Tommy wasn't good at. Golson should be better.

Agreed Tommy deep throws except for some to fuller turn into back shoulder throws(buzz word for underthrown) Golson will hopefully hit some in stride but remember Golson struggled in 2012 overthrowing some people has well. Can't wait to see his refined mechanics

Fuller will be a star. He can't be guarded man to man, too fast, ridiculous moves.

I'd be surprised if he isn't starting next year

Agreed on this 100% him and Brown are as good of deep threats you'll find our qb just can't throw more than 40 yards.

I'm excited to see where Hunter fits into all this.

Competition breeds excellence. ND has plenty of star power/talent in the depth chart at WR. These guys will push each other. We should see some fantastic WR play on the field regardless of the names listed as starters.

That's my 2 cents on the subject.

I think he was in for the most on run plays but he did have a really nice 3rd down catch if I remember correctly.

If he can block and catch anywhere near his boy Floyd, we are in good shape.

I'm not sure how people write off the youngsters (not that anyone did) or crown them the next coming.
