  1. What’s the read here, Big? Also, in reference to the hand-wringing at QB by some, it looks like Nic Iamaleava is visiting this weekend, per 247. https://247sports.com/college/notre-dame/Article/Nicholaus-Iamaleava-Five-Star-QB-Checking-Out-Notre-Dame-Saturday-171157662/
  2. Gonna guess it’s Cooper Flanagan, the TE out of Cali.
  3. I thought this thread was about 2023 recruiting?
  4. FWIW the only OL who would rank lower than him over the Kelly era is…Nick Martin, who they turned into a second round pick for the Texans and is still in the NFL with the Raiders.
  5. I think traditional wisdom states that successful years on the field are more impactful on the following recruiting year. That said, recruiting is way more about relationships and the ability to get kids drafted high than on-the-field success. Most kids don’t view ND as the be-all end-all. At the end of the day, these kids want to be paid to play football (rightfully so), so whichever schools are the best at getting them there are the most appealing.
  6. Sounds like he’s a big time Teo fan.
  7. Sampson and Fortuna have been talking on the Shamrock about how understaffed the recruiting department is. In the Freeman announcement, Kelly specifically called out his recruiting capabilities. I’m wondering if he was upfront with Swarbrick about the need to invest more in recruiting if we don’t want to get blasted on the national stage every time we play the big dogs.
  8. This feels like a statement hire. Makes you wonder if there may be some other investments this off-season?
  9. Chill dude, we’re all just here for a good time...
  10. Certainly fair, for sure. Kizer was on the taller side, and he was great when he was here (before things went sideways in ‘16.)
  11. I’m not saying this to refute your point, it’s more just an observation, but it’s wild to see this list and realize how few of these guys have had any sustained success in the NFL. Goes to show that QB is such a hard position to evaluate, recruit, and draft.
  12. I figured I would start a thread here for us to discuss needs and potential names of transfer players. Presumably they will be on the hunt for secondary players and a QB. Anyone hearing anything?
  13. Sometimes kids just feel a certain way about a school. If Edwards wants to go to UM because that’s the school he likes best, then that’s that. If it was purely a logical decision of, “Which school does X best,” then I’m sure ND would miss out on a ton more kids as well. Sometimes kids just like a certain school, and that’s all there is to it. That said, this class is impressive given everything ND has had to combat with COVID!
  14. Has Minnesota scored 31 unanswered?
  15. I think ND anticipated him decommiting, so they already got Will Schweitzer. I’ll be curious to see what ND does here.
  16. I think the concern with the football team right now, however, is that the trend observed within the team (several positive tests) represents a larger number than what’s being reported university-wide. I think it’s fair to ask why, given the near-constant monitoring that’s ongoing with the football team, they’re experiencing a spike when the general student population is not. One thing I struggle with here, as someone who absolutely loves college football and desperately wants a return to normalcy, is that I don’t really have any “skin in the game.” In many ways, it’s easy for me to sit here and acknowledge that the odds of any of these kids experiencing a significant issue as a result of participating is low, because none of it actually affects me. But I know that my wife and I have tried to be fairly cautious because we have a one year old daughter. While a couple deaths may not seem like a big deal to us, were not the ones acutely feeling those losses; to those closest to those individuals, that’s devastating. I guess what I’m saying is that while we can say “1 or 2 kids die on average, largely due to S&C activities,” those aren’t our kids. Regardless of the odds, is it fair to ask everyone to be comfortable with their children potentially dying because we, random strangers, want to watch them play football?
  17. This isn’t a good look, but I guess it was to be expected.
  18. Might explain why they offered Theran Johnson.
  19. More crystal balls rolling in for Colzie on 247. Toooon of momentum in ND’s favor right now it would seem.
  20. I missed posting this last week, but one of my favorite aspects of football season is the food and drink that goes with it. Obviously this season is a bit different, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still do some home tailgating. So what’re you folks eating and drinking today? I’m firing up the grill today for some smash burgers and hot dogs, maybe with some spicy sriracha ketchup to top it. In terms of drink, I bought a case of Guinness for some easy day-drinking, but I have some heavy-hitter craft IPAs chilling as well in case I need to something stronger. For a nightcap, I’m thinking a couple fingers of Knob Creek Maple Bourbon.
  21. Interesting. My wife is from that area, and it’s certainly no hotbed of football talent. A combined 10-24 the past three years.
  22. You would have to think so...they only have two WRs committed, both are 3*. But to your point, he didn’t even list UGA among the 3 schools from which he’ll be choosing.
  23. One afternoon where I would really prefer the thunder NOT be shaken from the sky, though that looks unlikely...
