  3. A team consists of offense, defense and special teams. To win a national championship, all three must be dominant. While it takes scholarships from the offense and the defense, I’m OK recruiting kickers, punters and long snappers. Special teams often win or lose games.

  4. It almost makes you wonder how Alabama and Ohio State keep all their recruits each year. They have TONS of 5 star and high 4 star players all over their rosters. Yet, kids keep committing and enrolling at those places. ND is indeed in this game this cycle and next. Make the playoffs. Kids will commit and enroll. Go to the Peach Bowl and win? Yawn.

  5. Yeah It also says to me Paqui and BK just built a house in South Bend and Paqui(Brian's wife) has worked hard to build a branch of their Kelly Cares Foundation in South Bend and if BK uproots his family Paqui would have a VERY LARGE say in the matter and the way it felt to me and you can listen to it in the other thread they have VERY LITTLE desire to pack up and move again.

  6. Loved this kid in HS in New Jersey where he was Gatorade Player of the Year,. So glad when ND flipped him from Sparty late. He is a stud and will draw comparisons to Jerome Bettis!!

  10. Zero issue with the signing. We get the #1 punter in the nation. Special teams is often neglected by major programs. As far as taking a scholarship from position player down the line I am fine with it. Plenty of 4 stars that sit on the bench.

  11. Better to squash that now. Because people will be in the ear to all these recruits. Sounds like to me, only way he leaves is you have to pay him. And pay him like no other.

  15. WR Carnell Tate was at ND on Sunday after visiting OSU on Saturday. Seems to be a toss up between the two. Not sure when he will decide. He originally planned to commit in October, but then backed off that timeline. Might be in the spring, but he could really pop any time. My gut says OSU wins this one, unfortunately. He is the #1 WR in the 2023 class per 247 (and #7 in the 247 Composite). This is the type of battle ND needs to win to close the gap and actually compete for a National Championship.

  18. If I was in USC's place, I can see the argument I'd be making. "Look at ND, they have three other high-profile guys committed in your class. Plus, two true Freshman already taking targets. You can come here and we can give you a platform to rake in passes like London, St. Brown, Pittman, etc.. Why sign early? Just wait and see what great coach we're going to get, we know you're gonna love him.". As big said, this is the sort of problem you have when you're becoming a bigger player in recruiting. These are kids that have devoted their life to football as a potential career. Like it or not, they're going to view this decision as on that has a LOT riding on it (especially the higher their ranking). If you want ND to recruit like Georgia, Bama, OSU.. ...you've got to come to terms that we're in this game. I sure hope we get Williams. I won't pretend to really know what's factoring into his decision making; I just know that I won't get bent out of shape about it either way since it's his life.

  20. For what it is worth, I believe that the ESPN Playoff predictor gave ND a 61% chance of making the CFP if ND won out. (This was prior to this past weekend). If so, then those odds probably move up given that Oregon lost.

  23. They also beat Oregon. I know Oregon just got their ass kicked by Utah, but that should be a wake up call.

  24. I just took an early look at the opponent no names just numbers as is my custom. Stanford is outscored by their opponents by over 10 points. 31-21 Stanford is uncharacteristically out rushed by their opponents by 2.5 yards per carry or about 1700 yards Stanford barely out passes their opponent http://cfbstats.com/2021/team/674/index.html That said, don't overlook them, road west coast games are historically trap games as @ELDER06said.

  25. I think Estime is definitely more in the power back category, he does have some speed, but it does not equal the other 3 RBs on the roster. It is good to have a change of pace type back though instead of 3 copies. Instead of trying to jump that defender or juking the others, he should have just trucked them. Definitely a power back, which is nice to have.

  28. Defense is getting better understatement of the week Drew Brees is becoming less of an anti hater even though I can see it pains him.. I guess he’s learning how to hero his job longer than Mayock and Flutie this team has good depth at skill positions Kyren Williams… Hope the coaches can figure out a way to make Buchner a 70% completion passer next season or there is going to be a lot of wasted talent.

  30. Wait until he gets the full playbook of Kelly's system so he'll be confused as shit with wavering confidence in himself.

  31. He most certainly has the SEC full skillset. Build jumps out at you. Was the teams second leading rusher yesterday. Had 61 yards that quick 2nd only to Buchner's 68 Here's the stat PDF from und.com. https://und.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/NDFB-Season-Stats-12.pdf Looking for that games played answer for you @Irish-scoop! 32. He was faster than I expected him to be too. Not sure I see a point in redshirting many players anymore. Those that are the level of guys we want aren’t staying 5 years anyway.

  34. For the first time yesterday ND called the game in the flow of the offense with Buchner. Only that first play had been a part of the package that Buhners set of plays. It showed. He fumbled a direct snap and did some other youthful things. Missed a read etc. But I look for Buchner to be the actual back-up QB by the bowl game, meaning running any play in the offense. He won't be great at it yet. But Pyne again knows the offense ALOT better and Coan picked the whole thing up fast being a veteran.

  35. Some of you have jumped off the Buchner train pretty quickly. It wasnt his best game, but I am not too worried about a freshmen with his lack of experience.
    1 point
  36. Buchner missed a read to Colzie based on what Kelly said and I remember Colzie being wide open on that play with the errant throw. As for the fumble, even Brees mentioned it, the kid has probably taken 20 snaps under center in his entire career Finally, they definitely decided to give Estime the major load in the 4th quarter when the offense rarely had the ball due to the defense basically having two drives back to back with the scoop and score I am still high on Buchner and it is clear that he is the #2 based on the last two games. His lack of overall experience is noticeable, but also positive that he is this good with so little experience. Essentially only 1 year of varsity football (not sure what he did his freshmen year).

  37. Great game all around. Surprised how well the defense played with the substitutions in the 2nd half. I agree with the comments on this is probably Kelly's best year. Estime and Diggs. Wow the future is bright!

  38. 1. Great to see all phases of the team play well in a much needed blowout. 2. I hope we bring in a transfer QB. I do not think we have a NC caliber QB on the roster and our brand has never been better. We should be able to be one of the top schools to get the pick of the litter. Buchner reminds me of a Boise State QB when Boise was great That’s not enough to win a NC. 3. I think we’d beat Cincy in a rematch. Cudos to Rees to realizing Coan works better uptempo. Our defense looks much more aggressive within the system than earlier in the year. 4. I will be surprised if Lugg starts at RT next year. His foot speed is too slow. The biggest question mark will be center if Patterson leaves I’ve never been sold on Correll who is small We’ve got a lot of impressive young talent 5. Estime looked great. We’re loaded at RB next year. With an elite QB, next year will be exciting.

  39. If Pyne leaves after the season we are in deep shit. He is so natural and smooth with all the QB stuff, whereas Buchner reminds me of Hendrix but faster. Really hoping Pyne might stay for his degree which I would bet on since there are no rumblings yet. I also pray the staff will be open to starting him, because if he hasn’t developed as a QB then Pyne is far and away the better choice.

  40. One of the best game Kelly has coached. Really impressed with the way the defense is playing.

  41. On the bolded. I agree. But at least they are getting him active and getting him experience, unlike they did with PJ. Hoping he spends all off season working on his pass game. Not sure I can stomach a year of tag team QBs with Tyler/Pyne/Agneli lol... Was hoping we'd flip Howard, but those chances are looking less and less. I think they are still on Brown too. Wouldn't write off Howard though until a new coach is named at LSU. LSU's reported list is this 1. Jimbo Fischer, 2. Bill O Brien, and 3. Mark Stoops. A little surprised Aranda isn't on that list. But if it ends up being Stoops or Aranda, I could see Howard flipping, as both of those guys are D types. Not sure why Jimbo would leave TAMU, but maybe he could think LSU would be a better spot than sharing the state of TX now when UT gets to the SEC. IMO, Silly to jump teams in the SECW... Tucker seems to be out, or perhaps never as high on the list as reported earlier. Who knows who USC will get, but most chatter says Fickell is the front runner with talk of Aranda here and there. Both are D guys, so could impact Brown depending on OC choice.

  42. 1- Defence has been outstanding these last 3 games. Was some of this due to competition and backup qbs? Sure. However, it has been impressive by any measure and they are getting familiar with Freeman’s scheme. 2- This team was flying around today. Jack Kiser, Henderson, Myron, Austin, Foskey… speaking of Foskey is there a better player that gets talked about less? 3- Something is amiss with Buchner. Pocket presence, throwing the football, footwork… the running part looks natural but the QB part does not. I have serious concerns the staff can develop him to be the full time guy. 4- This team has improved every week. If you compare this team to week 1 it has no resemblance. Props to BK and staff, hope the committee feels the same. 5- Props to Rees on getting the playmakers involved. Love how we are finally stressing defences sideline to sideline with motion and sweeps. There was lots to be desired to start the season, love the progress.

  43. This has to be Kelly & Co’s best coaching job since arriving here. ND looked so weak at the start of the season and now looks very fitting of its ranking. The O-line was a total mess. Weren’t even sure who the QB was. No running game because of the O-line. Lots of WRs lost. Hamilton out. For a lot of other teams, this season would have been a disaster.
