  2. ha - never thought i see the day when this board debated whether a top 200 DL was a "take"... how quickly things change. The Irish Illustrated guys love him and he was a take for the staff which is enough for me. This was enough for me to sign into my account for the first time in probably 5+ years.

  3. For those watching the rankings, ND is in a really good spot. They're obviously #1 right now, but we've seen that before when ND starts hot then limps to the finish line for a borderline Top 10 class. I think this class has Top 3 potential. Here is a projected class: QB: Moore RB: Irvin (commit), Limar WR: James (commit), Greathouse, Gallagher, Elzy TE: Flanagan (commit) OL: Pendleton (commit), Jagusah, Absher DL: Keeley (commit), Vernon (commit), Traore (commit), Houston LB: Bowen (commit), Zinter (commit), Ausberry CB: Gray, Bell S: Bowen (commit), Shuler (commit) That would give ND a score of 303.39 on the 247 Composite (what I use for class rankings). In the last five cycles, that score would rank 4th, 3rd, 4th, 3rd, and 3rd. So, for sure in the Top 5. ND leads or is in the top group for all of the above non-committed guys. This is a very realistic class, with ND hitting on some guys and missing on other highly rated guys. QB: ND is battling LSU and Oregon for Moore. Michigan is running 4th per most recruiting guys. Miami is also hanging around. ND leads, although the lead has narrowed after some visits to other schools. He is supposed to be on campus for ND's big official visit weekend in June where all the current commits and all of the highly ranked recruits will be on campus. If he makes it, I think ND closes the deal that weekend. There are no backup options. Moore is it. RB: ND leads for Limar (not sure who is running second). ND is also in on Jeremiyah Love, but not sure where ND stands. I don't love the class of Irvin and Limar, but I think the class last cycle is really good. Price is going to be a monster in college, and getting Payne to transfer in is huge. WR: All three guys - Greathouse, Gallagher, and Elzy - were on campus last week. ND is in good shape for all of them. Landing Greathouse and Gallagher would be huge. ND is battling Texas for Greathouse, but I think ND leads. It's ND or PSU for Gallagher. I think that is closer to 50/50. Elzy's is probably ND's to lose. This has the potential to be the best WR class in a long, long time. TE: Flanagan is solid to ND, although schools like Alabama are continuing to recruit him. ND had a UGA TE commit on campus last weekend, but I think Flanagan will be the lone TE in the class. OL: Pendleton committed. Siereveld is committing next week, but it looks like OSU. ND is battling Michigan for Jagusah, but everyone likes ND right now. It's ND/Clemson for Absher - probably closer to 50/50 with ND holding a slight lead. But if he visits Clemson again, which is possible, then this could go Clemson's way. ND also in it for Monroe Freeling, probably near the top, but not enough confidence to predict ND yet. DL: ND obviously has to hold on to Keeley for this class to be Top 3. I'm more confident in that happening than I was a month ago. Vernon and Traore are great gets. I think ND lands Devan Houston. I think ND is also near the top for Jason Moore, but I think some other schools are right there as well. LB: Bowen is the Blake Fisher of the class in terms of recruiting other guys and being the class leader. I wouldn't have taken Zinter's commitment, but got to trust Freeman and company. I think ND pulls off the upset and lands Jaden Ausberry. ND is competing with LSU and Auburn. Samuel M'Pemba really likes ND, but I just don't see him ending up Irish. CB: It'll be ND or LSU for Gray, who decides July 4th. His old HS coach is the CB coach at LSU, which is why they're at the top. I think ND wins out in the end, though. Micah Bell is relatively new since the Rhett decommitment, but I think he is ND's to lose. Maybe sooner than later. S: ND needs to hold on to Bowen. Him and his brother were on campus last weekend. He is still talking to other schools, primarily Oklahoma, so we'll see. If ND has another decommitment, I would put money on Bowen. But for now, I think he sticks. Adon Shuler is going to be a beast - I think he is massively under-ranked. He is solid in his commitment.

  9. The path to win a NC is not a 20+ year (from 2002 onwards) journey. Instead, I would argue that ND has tried three times to find a NC capable HC and failed all three times. In any case, we should have a good idea in five years as to how the fourth effort this century will turn out. Rosters completely turn over every five years and I believe that about 70% of NC winning coaches win in their first three years at a school. Yes, ND is rolling the dice with Freeman. He at least seems to be 1) working harder than most other people (especially Kelly) 2) hiring assistants who are willing to put the effort into recruiting and 3) embracing what is special about ND and promoting it as an advantage instead of criticizing it as a roadblock. We need to see how he performs in terms of winning games but at least he is raising the talent of the roster from a recruiting perspective.

  11. My sense is that scheduling this is all about Tennessee State being a historically black college and is similar to ND basketball playing Howard on MLK Day. It is amazing exposure for these colleges and the importance of these schools. It is very likely that ND’s black head coach, assistants, players, and recruits also find this personally very important and that, in turn, helps ND. For these reasons, I don’t mind it.

  14. D. Moore (leader), M'Pemba (co-leader), Tate (trailing OSU), J. Moore (co-leader, at worst), Jagusah (leader), and James (co-leader at worst). Hold on to Keeley (Bama and UF) and P. Bowen (OU). Vernon and D. Bowen are safe. That's 10 Top 100 guys. Looking more realistic by the day.

  20. I think the only one who theyd turn down of that group is Siereveld. So of he commits to us, then I can see us taking 5 if all wanted in. Freeling and Jagusah are takes no matter what but they really like Absher and I dont think you turn him down if he wants in to

  24. Kelly may have been a good coach at one time but in recent times he coasted and shunned many of his responsibilities that younger, hungrier coaches are willing to do. That’s why he’d never have got us to the promised land. He’s dead to me…

  26. My thoughts are we just lost the 13th game argument. We could point to other teams and say HEY! you played a FCS team (SEC does this), while we played a whole FBS schedule. Love it is a Tennessee school, but really kind of blah.

  28. I'm very impressed with the model freeman chose. His biggest influence and most time is spent in the hardest part of the ND head coaching job, recruiting. No excuses, No shopping down "a different aisle" No RKG. Just a single commitment from a press conference. "I will be the lead recruiter on EVERY player that comes to ND" He then hired the best coaches he could and worked on keeping his commitment.

  29. I might not think he is a great coach but he looks like he really knows how to fully evacuate his bowels without getting anything on his shoes. I'm a little jealous.

  30. I think it’s Buchner’s job to lose. Getting the experience under his belt last season is really going to help accelerate his progress this season. I remember comments from players/coaches previously about a few of the fantastic throws he’s made in practice, hope to see some of that in game this season.

  31. Love Freeman's intentions of bringing back former players and getting them more involved. Not sure why BK did not do that, but glad it will change going forward. Having these former pros around will do a lot of good within the program.

  32. Samuel M’Pemba grew up in Missouri but plays at IMG. He is 6-4/230. On 247, he is the 13th-ranked player nationally and the #1 athlete. I think Notre Dame offered him as a linebacker, but I’m not sure about that. Potentially, M’Pemba can play multiple defensive positions, from LB/Rover to Vyper. As an athlete, he also has legit offensive potential. Ausberry is most likely a LB/Rover. Recruiting sites suggest that Notre Dame will have 25 scholarships for 2023. I agree with SDIrishFan. You take both Ausberry and M’Pemba and figure it out later. What I like most is that Notre Dame could end up dropping top 100 football players from their board because they already have accepted commitments from other players filling the position.

  34. I have no problem with Rees being the OC.

  35. No offense, but the title of this thread is misleading and might induce needless anxiety. Rees is not being poached, which implies he’s leaving. The article confirms that some teams expressed interest. That’s entirely different from “Rees being poached.” That said, I agree with your analysis. I’m not sure I see him as a wunderkind at this point. I’ll have a better handle after this season.

  37. @SynopticoI usually check in once in awhile, but life has been crazy busy and I don't really follow recruiting as much. Still never miss an ND game, but getting to South Bend for a game and following the ins/outs of recruiting has been a lot tougher over the years with our busy schedules. I tried logging in during the early signing period, but I couldn't figure out which email I used then I realized it was my old AOL account lol. How's everything going? I'm still married, father of 4 now, and still coach HS football. I've since added Middle School wrestling and College softball to my list of sports I coach. My son is a sophomore, two year starter at FB/LB for our HS team. The Tailback that started ahead of him just committed to Division II Kutztown University, so he should be the main back this year. My son's passion is wrestling though. He hopes to earn a scholarship in wrestling. He's 63-5 in two years so far. During Covid last year, we moved with my uncle and he placed 3rd in GHSA 7A States. We've since moved back to NJ, and he's the #1 seed in Districts as individual postseason starts on Saturday. My oldest daughter is a frosh, she started Varsity in Field hockey and is hoping to start softball as well. I have two little ones 5 and 7 who are just getting into sports. They're all Notre Dame fans like their dad. I've spent many hours on this site, and other ND sites and it's where my love for Notre Dame football grew to almost an obsession lol. We had some great times following NSDs and Bowl games. The conversation and debates were always great. I'll def check in again soon. GO IRISH!! Anyone who wants to follow me or my kids on Twitter. I hope to check in a little bit more. It's always great visiting the site!! Twitter.com/czearfoss Twitter.com/ZearfossJake Twitter.com/RylieZearfoss
