Default Faith In Humanity Restored Thread

Maybe we can keep a thread going here about good things that happen. Here's one.

Goose, I changed your title. Hope you don't mind. If so, I can change it back. I like this thread though.

Not a story about others, but this is for all of you frequent fliers. I rack up considerable mileage flying for work and we are permitted to reap the benefits associated with United's elite 1K status, such as free upgrades or discounted international upgrades to business/first.

Because I am part of the group that boards first, I usually have the luxury of seeing everyone else aboard the plane walk by me on their way to their seats.

One of my favorite and most fulfilling things to do for someone, particularly since I have children myself, is to offer my seat to single mothers/fathers flying with a lap child. I see it all the time and they always look overwhelmed with the things they have to carry and the stress associated with flying with an infant. I've been there. Especially when coach overhead space is non-existent with the ridiculously over-sized carry-ons people travel with nowadays.

Really, really pisses off the others in the section because I have a feeling they buy those seats just so they can avoid having to deal with crying kids. Doesn't matter to me. The look on the parent's faces knowing that they'll have all that room to themselves and their child really makes my day....

Just a thought for those of you who travel frequently.....

Good on you. As a father who traveled with a two year old, it was extremely stressful not knowing what to expect. We put together a little "care package" for the people seated around us that included snacks, ear plugs, headache medicine and a note expressing our apology if our kid cries. It was well received.

That's awesome Echo! I would be ecstatic if someone did that for me! I travel with my 3 kids frequently and make a point of being the last person on the plane. I have my kids run laps around the chairs when everyone is boarding and then wait until the very last call and hop on with the kids so they don't have to wait in line and don't have to sit in the chairs for longer than needed. (Just something that works for us in case any other parents need advice.)

My wife went to a coffee shop the other day and the barista said that she looked like a tired mom and so the coffee was a treat from a former customer who was a tired mom herself and left money for the barista to give a free drink to the next tired mom he saw. Now the coffee shop has a pay it forward board where people can buy coffees for strangers. Pretty cool....

Wow - loved the ND story and loved the kid singing in the car and all of the posts so far. Definitely one of my favorite threads on the internet.
