Default Bears fire Harry Hiestand

Bears have kept Matt Nagy as head coach but purged several of their assistant coaches including OL coach Harry Hiestand. former ND O-line coach.

If he doesn't have a job offer already, I'll be pretty upset.

I know itís been discussed on another thread but I doubt he comes back. Also, was he that great? I remember having the of the similar issues that we have now with Harry H. He also was fired I believe after one year with Tennessee. Great recruiter but Iím not too sure heís really great as some may think.

Good recruiter and passing game coach, but the fact that he had two of the most promising young NFL linemen on one side, with a running QB, and couldn't run the ball against Georgia, tells me unless they change to an OC who is dedicated to running the football, nothing real will change.

I thought that one reason HH went to the Bears was to finish qualifying for an NFL pension. If so, he may need to find another NFL job rather than return to ND (unless ND pays him enough to make up for any pension)

They couldn't run the ball against inferior teams. Their O Line communication was horrendous on inside zone plays. Seemingly the linemen didn't know who was combo and hitting the 2nd level.

The only good run offense we had under Hiestand was against in the bowl game against LSU and our guys ran a pin/pull which is basically power with zone concepts.

No, No, and f*cking NO! ; they could never run the ball on first and 10 to shorten the sticks. you can throw all the stats out the window on his lines. The eye test show you that his lines sucked. Were pushed around and nonathletic in the 2nd level.

He recruited well, but that was the extent of it.

Was waiting for your take on this haha harry has said hes not coming back so no worried there. What are your thoughts on Quinn? I dont know about the intricacies of o line play, was he better? Worse? Same as heistand?

I haven't watched the line play as closely as I did when we were pretty brutal to watch in the Hiestand days. My overall(cursory) impression is that run blocking had improved while pass blocking fell off a bit, which could be on the quarterback and center / complex offense etc.

I'm not a real big fan of BK's 4 verticals offense and am hoping we see a more balanced approach with power type runs, sweeps, man beaters, and medium zone passing plays to compliment his go deep ****.

Makes it harder on the guys to pass block when the D line can tee off every snap and Ian Book has to pat the ball a couple times before letting her fly.
