Default USC AD resigns. Will Urban Liar be next USC coach?

USC athletic director Lynn Swann resigned Monday afternoon.

What does this mean for Trojans head coach Clay Helton?

Swann was seemingly the only person in Helton's corner at the end of a disastrous 2018 season, retaining the coach for a fourth full season while the wolves called for his head. Now that his key supporter has abruptly disappeared, Helton's seat is once again engulfed in flames.

By resigning now, Swann perhaps inadvertently set up USC perfectly to move on from Helton at the end of the season, if it desires. The administration can take its time to find a new athletic director, make the hire by mid-November and let his or her first major order of business be appointing a new football coach. In theory, it would work out better than rushing to hire an AD who then rushes to hire a coach. Remember that Urban Liar is laying in the weeds, dying for this job.Dollars to donuts, he gets it!

Will it be Gene Smith?

I was also wondering if someone was going to write anything about this. Something seems fishy over there right now. That was a sudden and quick stay for Lynn Swann.

Maybe UM would take the AD role...but as HC? Why would UM walk away from the job he ALWAYS wanted to go to USC?

USC folks at work are already celebrating the hiring of Meyer or Stoops.

After the mid 2000s debacle, they administration wanted sh|t to get cleaned up in that program. That means a few seasons of underwhelming performance as the new staff roots out the BS.

I mean, he was asked to follow the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse for fu(ks sake--- Petey, Kiffin, Orgeron, and Sark.

I live in Orange County, CA, and can assure you that the USC fanbase is 100% OK with losing every game except ND and UCLA so long as it means that Helton is out and Stoops or Meyer is in.

I was at the ND-USC game last year. They hired a fuxking plane to fly around the stadium with a trailing banner imploring Swann to fire Helton.

There is far too much talent within 200 miles for USC to suck for this long.

I kinda hope Helton goes 10-2/9-3 to make it hard for USC to justify firing him. TBH, I am scared at the prospect of Meyer becoming the HC there.

I used to love that about Fulmer at UT, but little did I know they would fall into the lowest echelon of college football for years... I could only hope thereís a god who will let USC follow the same path.

Usually the New AD will want to hire a new coach. Swarbrick quickly mad a decision on CW I believe after a 1 year grace period. So I would think within the next two seasons USC will be on the coaching search.
