Default Where did all the big runningbacks go?

Iím talking the big boys like Jerome Bettis or Brandon Jacobs or Ron Dayne?

Big, scary loads that make DBs truly afraid to even attempt to tackle them.

I look out at college football today and I see tons of lightning but I hear no thunder.

Why? I think to be a true championship contender we need to bring back the thunder.

If I had to guess, thunder doesnít tend to catch it out of the backfield as well. So, if you eliminate them from those plays, it becomes obvious you only have to cover four guys in coverage and play an extra man against the run to stop them. Maybe the college game has passed them by the same way it has generally passed by the fullback which, if necessary, can be replaced by a tight end in motion.

Craig Heyward and Jerome Bettis.

They would dominate today - like they did in the past. Unique players.

They played with a natural strength that cannot be developed by training.

A great full back gets those 1-2-3 yards desperately needed at times but the problem is, if you bring one in, they know you are running up the gut. If you want to fake the other team, then you have one less guy out there available for passes. Of course he might help for pass protection.

with every team moving to a spread offense these type of RBs have died out just like the fullback. these running backs are still out their it's just now they are being moved to LB when they get to college. I agree that if they played RB they could dominate.
