Default Virginia is now "the game"

This is a scary and critical game. Virginia is 4 and 0 , they have a couple of good wins against Pitt and FSU albeit FSU not the usual team for them.

What kind of team we have will be MUCH clearer after Saturday then it was after Georgia.

Georgia we played like a top ten team...coming up a hair short against a talented top 4 team.

We have locked ourselves into the ten spot , and can move up slow and steady with a series of big wins...undefeated Virginia followed by USC and Michigan in due course....

Win all that and we will have a great exciting year.

Will we have a LET DOWN after such a tough physical disappointing outing against #3??

Will we come out and show we are better then 10 and that we can play with anybody.

Will we be able to run the ball?...will we be able to go downfield against a defense not Georgia? Will our defense PROVE they will be for real all season and every team will have to deal with them.

Our prospects...and our Psychology as a team and as a fan base will become crystal clear after we see WHAT TEAM SHOWS UP SATURDAY!!

Like so many of our games...this one is BIG , Not only a must win as is every game but we need to look good doing it!

aloha

We just need to win... It doesn't matter how. That's all.

ND was physically, emotionally & mentally spent after the Georgia game. They gave it everything they had and still came up short.
Virginia is not a bad team but a team the Irish should beat. This game could very well be a trap game for Notre Dame....they should win & cover the spread but will they come out drained?
The playoffs are 90% out the window. How will the Irish respond ?

I was very pessimistic about this game before Georgia, but I am very confident that ND wins and wins big. I like that ND fought until the very end and had a chance to win in Athens. That should leave a bitter taste in their mouths. The captains called a players only meeting early in the week. I think that they know that they need to take care of business on Saturday. I don't expect ND to struggle out of the gate. Getting Michael Young back is huge for the offense. Hopefully we can figure the running game out, but I really like ND to score 30+ on UVA - and that is a lot, UVA is a great defense (only allowing 18.0 points/game).

We need to look like a Top 4 team and not rest on our "good loss" laurels.

Eh...playoffs are icing on the cake. We’ll get our big bowl. Not worried about it...or the playoffs. The system is sh** in the first place. I mean, four teams...?? Seriously? Should be like every other sport with auto bids for all conferences and at large. NCAA is a joke. Gimme a big bowl and money. I’m good.

I don't really care that much about what the pundits and pollsters say about our play this weekend.

I want the team to prove to ME how good they are.

I was surprised on how tough we played against Georgia, really good enough to win with a couple extra breaks.

Was that just a strong effort against a flat or overrated Georgia team....OR

Are we just about as good as they are.

If we play flat and sketchy this week it will be a week to week assessment of this team,,,if we play GREAT then I will be convinced that we are really a strong squad and have a true shot at winning the rest.

Irish need to convince us not the country,,,,i hope they can

aloha

I would like to beat them with a last second touchdown causing emotional damage and heartbreak to their fans

Virginia leads the nation in sacks. Just assume they will pressure Ian up the middle with 2 LBs and try to contain him on the edges with the other 2 LBs. Ian must be able to hit the seam routes and crossing patterns today. I wouldn’t expect much from the run today either. If Ian gets happy feet and leaves the pocket too soon as he is prone to do, we will be in trouble. You can expect a fake punt or trick play from Bronco too.

You were pretty spot on, right down to that kickoff play to start the second half. Without the D's dominance and ability to turn the ball over and advance the ball, we would have lost this game.

Agree. Overall though pretty happy with a 15 point win today all things considered. This offense isnt good enough to make a serious nc run but the d is impressive and a new years win is still very much on the table. And regarding the offense the skill position recruiting has taken another step starting in the 20 class
