Default Did you know

ND faces six teams who are off the weekend before playing the Irish. Five of those games come while the Irish have only a week to prepare.

The only good about this is the teams we are playing are considered our lower ranked teams. So there’s that I guess...

Every team gets two idle weeks this season, which is partly the reason why ND will face 7 opponents coming off an idle week. 3 of the 5 ACC opponents will have idle weeks before they play ND - don't really think that is a coincidence.

Here are the teams who will be off the week before playing ND: New Mexico, Bowling Green, USC, Virginia Tech, Duke, Navy, and Boston College.

New Mexico and Bowling Green could have 10 idle weeks before playing ND and they'd still lose by 30+ points. USC has a really tough schedule the first half of the season, so they will definitely need the off week. The last four - Virginia Tech, Duke, Navy, and Boston College - are all in November, which is the time of the season having an idle week is really advantageous. I guess the positive is that ND will face 3 of the 4 at home, with only Duke being on the road.

ND also has an idle week before playing Michigan, who will be coming off a road game at Penn State, so that's pretty advantageous for ND.

He is in charge of scheduling the games..

I realize we have an ACC committment which makes things snug on the scheduling front but it's ultimately his responsibility to maximize our chances of winning.

But how does he control other teams schedules? He can’t tell them not to put a bye week before they play ND.

My big complaint over the years was midterm scheduling. Players always seem run down that week and it's showed on game days in the past. Always wished that we could either get a bye that week or use one of our one and done type MAC opponents to fill that slot as a home game.

Does anyone know when midterms are?

I think they’ve actually been making that the bye week the last few years, if I am remembering correctly. They’re usually mid-October (2nd or 3rd week of October) and I think the bye week the last two or three years has been that week.
