Just rumors. But, from what I have gathered, here is the timeline:

2018 Season: Did not travel to New York for Syracuse or USC - Coaches Decision;
2019 Offseason: Broke University rule, presumed to be suspended for first 4 games of 2019 season;
2019 Offseason: Broke same University rule, suspended for the entire 2019 season.

That would seem to point to weed based on ND's policy for weed, and other players being suspended for 4 games in the past (Kevin Stepherson in 2017, Dexter Williams in 2018 ) for a 2nd offense. A third offense means that the player is suspended for the season, which matches up here.

Apparently, what got him in the doghouse during 2018 (why he did not travel with the team for the last 2 games) is something completely different than what got him to this point.

Premium sites cannot/will not confirm why he is suspended. And due to privacy laws, ND will never say, and we will likely never know.

Not that I have an issue with the policy even though the stuff is going to be legal throughout NA in a few years. I could bet you the Clemson and Bama players smoke weed at will without punishment. Heck Dabo was defending players who were caught using steroids before the bowl game.

This is why I decided to not be so invested into ND after the bowl game. We were at a clear disadvantage physically, disagree if you will but to me it was very noticeable. We aren’t playing by the same rules, everyone deals with injuries and transfers but only we continuously kick the few 5 stars we get off the team for smoking a joint.

I’ll watch and cheer on as usual but this is why we are going to get clobbered in our 8th straight major bowl.

Sad to see this happen. Seems harsh. But, he knew the rules and did it again anyway. I want to feel sorry for him. Hope he sticks. Would hate to see him end up going the juco route. Don't know if other power 5's would take him given this history (?).

Bingo! See those Miami thugs on the sidelines swinging their bling vs. Florida? Lot of good it did the -- they LOST!
Coaches condone it to get these guys to play for them. To me, it gives college football a black eye and is not what it is all about. Bear Bryant is rolling over in his grave.

The TO Chain is moronic, but I could careless what Bear Bryant thinks. Time doesn’t go backwards, you’re wasting time wishing on what was.

They absolutely would. He’s not a legal concern, so to a lot of them, he’s a saint.

As of now, he is still enrolled. One would think that if he was intent on leaving that he would do it ASAP so that he wouldn’t have to sit out an extra year.

Maybe he goes the Everett Golson/Alize Mack route and takes his medicine and comes back in 2020. We’ll need him with the loss of Claypool and not much else behind him.

Bryan Driscoll of Blue and Gold Illustrated said today on Weekday Sports beat that he is hearing from some people that it may not be a done deal that Austin is done for the year.

He probably needs to transfer. That would be in his best interests I think. Probably Notre Dame's as well. I'm sure he's probably already hearing from other colleges in the backdoor channels. Maybe not huge names, but places he could go and start rather easily.

Very unclear right now. One site reported that he would be suspended for the entire season on Monday. Yesterday, another site reported that Austin had appealed his suspension and won, and would only be suspended for four games. That is just the rumor now, but it has not be shot down by any site.

Unfortunately, we may not know until the game against Bowling Green kicks off. BK will never specifically address Austin's status (he never did with Dexter or Stepherson). This is a little different though because numerous sites confirmed Dexter and Stepherson's suspensions, while nothing has been confirmed here.

I do think it's a positive that BK said that Austin is still enrolled and is still practicing.

Agree with this. He doesn’t need to transfer. If he did he’d go big D1. I don’t want him to leave
