I know Weis really went hard at hiring Fickel way back when he was just a position coach at tOSU, but is there something out there that Fickel would also seriously consider ND or "lusts" after the ND job? Or is it just that it's Cincinnati, and two of their best coaches in recent memory went on to take over MSU and ND?
Sounds like the latter to me. Also, maybe itís kind of a smear job on MSU in hopes to keeping Fickel a little longer at Cincy. You have a good gig here, this isnít tOSU or even ND...

Iíd still take Campbell over Fickel. Regardless, Iíd say thereís good odds the USC job opens up next yr and heíll be at the top of their list. I donít know why anyone thinks heíll be at OSU anytime soon, heís actually a good 5 or so yrs older than Ryan Day.

Wow - just tons of interesting nuggets coming out about MSU. Besides the terrible Nasser situation, issues with the football team a few years back and the most recent recruiting violation allegations, they got turned down by Fickell as mentioned, Mel Tucker at Colorado, Pat Narduzzi at Pitt (who I thought would be a natural fit there), Robert Saleh from the Niners and Matt Campbell. Their President stepping down, interim guy Engler botching his time there and stepping down - what a mess. Will probably have to settle for someone like Bielima to just settle things down for a few years

Mel Tucker is going to be the head coach.

Thought he had a good thing going at Colorado, and apparently he turned down initial interest. But I guess money talks - sounds like his salary is about to double.

He should understand what is needed to recruit having coached at LSU, Ohio St, Alabama, and Georgia

Have long thought Fickel would be a great fit at ND and excellent successor to Kelly. He is a dynamic recruiter-- just look at the class he just bought in -- best ranking in Cincy history and he has had 2 back-to-back double digit winning seasons.

Never was a fan of his. He was given the keys to a very talented Ohio State program and he failed miserably. Granted it was his first gig. But that has scared me since.

I don't know, he had a true freshman starting QB in Braxton Miller and only had 4 players drafted at the end of the year.

That doesn't necessarily mean 6-7 or whatever they finished, but all of the losses were close and it wasn't probably a title contender with any coach.

That said, I don't really know the first thing about him, so this is all from a cursory look.

But if he's done well at Cincy, what's the worst that could happen?

He coaches at ND for 10 plus seasons with no National Championship

So for those of you following this story, apparently Dantonio gave testimony in a current lawsuit that Curtis Blackwell may have gone in the car on some recruiting trips but never went into the home of a recruit (which would have been an NCAA violation).

So yesterday they released a photo of Blackwell, Dantonio and a few other coaches in the home of Daelin Hayes on a recruiting trip. Probably nothing comes of this other than maybe the NCAA investigates MSU further, but I'm sure some reporters will be around campus asking Daelin about it.

Even after the picture was published with Dantonio standing next to Blackwell, Dantonio confirmed that he never authorized Blackwell to enter the house or be in the picture. I assume that is to try to prevent a perjury charge.
