Default CFP Rankings - All is Right with the World

Hopefully the rankings tonight put some of the conspiracy theories that the Committee could leave out a 12-0 Notre Dame to rest.

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Notre Dame
4. Georgia
5. Oklahoma
6. Ohio State
7. Michigan
8. UCF
9. Florida
10. LSU
11. Washington
12. Penn State
13. Washington State
14. Texas
15. Kentucky
16. West Virginia
17. Utah
18. Mississippi State
19. Texas A&M
20. Syracuse
21. Northwestern
22. Boise State
23. Iowa State
24. Missouri
25. Fresno State

The only potential wrinkle could be if Georgia beats Alabama:

1. Clemson
2. Georgia
3. Notre Dame
4. Alabama

OR

1. Georgia
2. Clemson
3. Alabama
4. Notre Dame

In either scenario, Notre Dame doesn't have to face Alabama.

Would be nifty if it worked out like this if UGA could somehow beat Bama:

Clemson
ND/Georgia
Alabama

If Oklahoma wins and Georgia wins here you go...

1. Clemson
2. Georgia
3. Oklahoma
4. Alabama
5. Notre Dame

I'll put money on it.

Oklahoma is beating texas, we need Alabama to win clearly.....what ever happens it is what it is....but it is gonna be hard to keep a 12-0 Notre dame out of the play offs.....we played 10 power 5 conference teams....that's pretty damn impressive....their are no Furmans, Citadel or Georgia southerns on our schedules....we play teams that have the potential to beat most teams in the nation on any given saturday.

There is 0.0% chance that UGA and OU winning would knock ND out.

1. Clemson
2. Georgia
3. Notre Dame
4. Alabama

Alabama would only be #4 to avoid an immediate rematch with Georgia.

Or

1. Georgia
2. Clemson
3. Alabama
4. Notre Dame

Oklahoma would be out. They were #6 for a month because the Committee knows their defense is absolutely awful. They've given up 40 points in 4 straight games (including to Kansas). There is no chance they would jump 12-0 Notre Dame.

Anyone who thinks an undefeated ND is left out is friggin nuts. The 3 spot is locked up and the only movement left is upwards.

Hell, if Bama loses I wouldn't be surprised if they put them 3rd above us.

Georgia
Clemson
Alabama
Notre Dame

That's how I would have it.

Georgia would have the best win of the year (Alabama), a second Top 10 win (Florida), and a win over #15 Kentucky. Clemson would only have wins over #19 Texas A&M (by 2 points) and #20 Syracuse (by 4 points).

Either way, Notre Dame would play Georgia.

Yeah I realize I'm on the outside looking in on my views, but I'm sticking to them. I already have a wager with my buddy about it so I'm willing to put a bottle of whisky on it. EVERYONE out side of ND wants ND in a conference. What better way to slap ND an tell them they need to join a conference than have them leap-frogged by two conference champions.

Again, call me crazy, but I'm sticking to it.

It could happen though...Nuclear War, Alien Invasion or the Apocalypse. All more likely than any of the scenarios mentioned above lol.

I am suggesting in my scenario assuming that Alabama gets beat.

It doesnt matter, all those crazy scenarios are still more likely than Notre Dame being left out. Ill take a bet with you, that is easy money right there.

Interesting article here by Dan Wetzel who suggests we get rid of conference championship games and play this weekend as round 1 of a CFB playoff, with the Power 5 conference winners and 3 at large teams.

https://sports.yahoo.com/college-foo...005615013.html

By the way, don't discount O$U beating NU this weekend by 50 points and wowing the selection committee. Not saying they will get in, but bet Urban will try his hardest to run up the score as much as possible.

I find this a bit funny because Ohio State (2016) and Alabama (2017) did not win their conference championship and still made it into the playoffs.

To me, the committee made it clear that conference champions are not the ultimate deciding factor in reaching the playoffs.

Everyone outside of Notre Dame can complain all they want because it wonít matter. Notre Dame is making it in.

After tonightís release, Iím feeling quite confident in the committeeís stance on ND. Iíve been trying to be a cheap-*** this year & didnít go to any of my sports teamsí games (other than a single Cubs at Rockies game). Now Iím debating driving down to Arlington to watch the semi game if the Fighting Irish make it in as #2 or#3. Weíll have to wait til Sunday before pulling the trigger, I guess. In the meantime, Iíll be watching the madness in scenario possibilities.

Hang on Im taking out a 2nd mortgage to throw in as well....lol

As I said earlier in the week, I could see us dropping to #4 depending on a few factors. But no way in hell would we be shut out of the playoffs....

I have to agree that #4 is bottom-barrel-basement for where we could end up. I think if UGA whoops Bama's *** then Bama drops to #4 and stay at #3. If it's a 2 point UGA win then I can see Bama at #3 and ND at #4.

The only problem with that is then you have an SEC title game rematch for the first round of the playoffs. If fair is fair then that's how it should be, but you know the powers that be don't want an immediate rematch. It's gonna suck waiting til Sunday night for this.

Good point. If Georgia wins then no way are those two playing each other. ND is playing Clemson in this scenario no matter what. If Bama wins, ND is playing Clemson no matter what.

I think Clemson destroys Pitt. The only thing Pitt is good at is running the ball, Clemson is #1 at stopping the run. How is Pitt going to score?

Still wouldn't be surprised if the committee forces us to play Bama with a close Bama loss. They don't want a repeat of Bama/Georgia and generally speaking I think they would try their hardest to avoid a Clemson/Bama semi-final this season. We should all be hoping Bama wins to avoid Bama in the semis.

If Bama loses and gets in they will 100000 percent be the no. 4 seed and would play Clemson.

Notre Dame would be no. 2 or no. 3 depending on if the committee says Georgia's win over Bama makes them amazing. But we'd probably still play Georgia.
