ND Hoops Recruiting

Lotta offers out recently, so just to keeps you guys up to date I am starting this thread:

2020 Targets:

C Hunter Dickinson, Maryland
SF Terrance Williams, DC (likely announcing for Georgetown later today)
SF Donovan Johnson, Pennsylvania
SF/PF JaKobe Coles, Texas
PF Elijah Taylor, Pennsylvania
SF Darlinstone Dubar, Tennessee
PF/C Matt Zona, New Jersey
PF Zed Key, New York

Wouldn't be surprised if they add more offers because they have been offering a ton of guys this week. Dubar, Zona and Key were all reported offers within the last few days.

Also, the staff hosted D3 transfer Austin Hutcherson late last week and they have a good shot to land him. Should have a decision in the next few weeks. Intriguing talent that barely played in HS due to injuries and that is why he wasn't highly recruited. Visiting Marquette, Marquette and Illinois as well.

Staff is putting in work with 2021 recruits as well.

Offers so far (2021)

PG Devin Askew, California
SG/SF JR Konieczny, Indiana
SG Blake Wesley, Indiana

JR particularly feels like a guy that could definitely end up Irish.

Only if Dickinson suddenly commits and signs in the next few days to the Irish. Both Taylor and Zona (Zona already has) will be signed by todayís end. Best news for the Irish would probably be Dickinson unsigned after next Wednesday and caring this out into the Spring.

ND might look at some wings for a spring sign as well. Transfer isnít out of the realm of possibility either. They would like to land 2 more guys for 2020.

Terrance Williams is back on the market after de-committing from Georgetown. Irish finished second to the Hoyas back in the summer. This could potentially be huge for ND.

Hunter Dickinson just committed to Michigan. Hope Brey has other options to rebuild the roster.

Brey is quickly seeing his time going. Recruits coming in are pretty bad, minus 1 transfer. Also, the sophomores just canít stay consistent.

Brey has this obsession with 6'7 to 6'10 unathletic shooters. He thinks these guys fit his style of offense well. I was hoping that his first Elite 8 team (his best team and one of the best in ND history imo) would change all of that and revolutionize his thinking in his personnel. Sadly as we get farther and farther away from that team it clearly has not.

The formula for success with his offense and the current landscape of college basketball landed in his lap and he ignored it.

That team played mostly 4 athletic shooters and 1 true post player. This allowed them to shoot lights out and also be able to defend the perimeter. They did struggle a little with guarding bigger teams, but Connaughton played bigger than he was and that helped with def. and rebounding.

Brey should be focusing on bringing in nothing but 6'0 - 6'7 athletic players that can shoot with high b-ball iq's. Then have 2 - 3 traditional post players on the team at all times. I know the pool isn't huge, but if that is all you focus on you should be able to find enough players that fit that mold. Then you build a tradition and identity that will attract that type of player.

With that model put in place, there aren't many players that I see from this current team that fit. At time they were being recruited, I would say Hubb, carmody, gibbs, and Durham fit. Of the current kids committed only Ryan. The other 3 - no.
