Notre Dame, IN - You can bet Irish fans are celebrating their victory over the Tennessee Volunteers. One fan, in particular, gets quite a bit of attention from the team.
When it comes to Notre Dame football you have your die-hard fans that, no matter where they are in the country, they're rooting on the team.
But then you have your truly devoted fans. These people don't miss a game or a practice and sometimes those fans win a special place in the team's heart.
In a stadium that holds 80,000, it's easy to get lost in the crowd, especially if you’re wheel chair bound with cerebral palsy.
“I love every player on ND and Coach Weis is great with me,” said Keith Penrod, devoted fan with cerebral palsy.
While he may be hard to understand, Notre Dame football players look to Keith, or Coach Keith as he's known as, for last minute words of inspiration.
“I think it was Stovall who gave him a medallion and said pray for him,” said one of Keith’s family members, Evan Gorzainwizc. “He usually tells them good look and his predictions.”
At first glance and by definition, Coach Keith is handicapped, but that doesn't stop him from being a typical fan; cheering for the good plays and pointing out the bad.
“He's been here for 30 years. He goes to all the practices and home games. He's real close with Weis and all the players,” said Gorzainwizc.
And lucky for Coach Keith and other Irish fans, Notre Dame makes it two in a row here at home as they pulled out the win against Tennessee. They'll ride that home game-winning streak all the way to next Saturday when they face Navy.
