It saddens me to read recruiting articles in which schools like Mississippi State, are out-recruiting ND--year in and year out. Why can't this be addressed? Why can't ND land a top-rated center ever? Is it the strict grade requirements? I won't blame this all on academics when schools like Vandy and Stanford are pulling in 4-star guys. But there has to come a time when this element is stressed. When we're competing against Deleware and Providence for a recruit, that alone is very telling. We're happy to get a verbal from somebody who was considering American University or Rutgers. Can somebody get the memo out to Brey? We'll never be an athletic team if we consistantly miss out on the athletes.

Check out the link and tell me we can't recruit better than some of the teams mentioned.

Let me step right up here as one of the reasons basketball will never be an elite sport at ND.
I dont care how they do. the results of a basketball season will never determine the amount of money i am prepared to donate to the university.
In a larger sense, the school is so tied to football in it's identity that i am pleased with a good team in other sports, but just dont care.
Good hockey season, wonderful. women won the basketball title, great. I would still rather we hung one more TD on navy in a 42-0 win than either of those things happen.
PS, i agree that brey has reached the limit of his usefulness, but wouldnt want the university to spend a dime to buy him out.

I don't think that by not having a fan base dedicated squarely to a basketball team, that it would influx the amount of talent ND can get. Can you honestly say that Miss St. has more of a following? No. But they out-recruit ND and you don't need fan support to recruit, you need a committment from a coach to outwork the competition. And Brey's not getting it done at all.

I am pure ND football. (period) But I recognized a fan base for basketball, ladies sports and hockey which I am trying to learn. Which is why I advocated an "OTHER SPORTS" section here at DD to move it from OPEN and give them a forum. I hope it is working out?
