Lagera: Navy bound
Lake Travis running back Luke Lagera, who missed his entire senior season with a knee injury, has made a commitment to play college football for Navy.
"My biggest goal is to beat Notre Dame," the senior said. He was referring to Notre Dame's 42-game winning streak over Navy, an NCAA record.
Lagera, who rushed for 1,303 yards and scored 23 combined touchdowns as a junior in 2004, is in his fourth month of rehabilitating a torn ACL in his right knee. He suffered the injury in August a week before Lake Travis' season opener. He said he still needs two to four months to fully regain his strength.
"Missing last season was the hardest thing I've ever had to go through," Lagera said. "I'd have tears in my eyes for every game. I'd been playing football since I was 8 and had been a starter (at Lake Travis) since I was a sophomore. To help build the school's football reputation and then lose it with an injury, that was the worst thing ever."
