On Tuesday, Notre Dame officially added a new assistant coach. On Wednesday, the Irish apparently unofficially added another player.
Scott Martin, a 6-foot-8 forward from Valparaiso, Ind., has reportedly decided on Notre Dame as his transfer destination. Martin reportedly called Irish coach Mike Brey on Tuesday with the news.
Martin played one season at Purdue, averaging 8.5 points in 32 games in 2007-08. He is the second big-name transfer to join the Irish this spring, with guard Ben Hansbrough already on board after he left Mississippi State.
After sitting out a season, both Martin and Hansbrough will be eligible to play for the Irish in 2009-10 -- when at least four roster spots will be vacated by graduating seniors. Martin will have three years of eligibility remaining, Hansbrough two.
Martin had been seeking a destination closer to home, and the Irish were immediately interested when he elected to leave the Boilermakers. Out of Valparaiso High School, Martin was ranked as the No. 29 recruit nationally by Scout.com and No. 72 by Rivals.com.
